Some weeks ago I wrote about my liking of storytelling through maps. One of my favorite, related ideas that regularly bounces around in my head is: mashing up music lyrics with maps. Let’s take a look at one such map.
A lot of folks know Sir Mix-a-Lot for Baby Got Back, but I tend to be more fond of Posse On Broadway. There is something about the lyrics in songs like this that appeals to me, as it describes random day-to-day activities and places that are part of the artist’s life.
At the time of its release, one couldn’t easily lookup pictures of a city or place as one can today. In many cases, we were left to imagine what the referenced places might look like or where they were located in a given city.
Fast forward to modern day and we have interactive maps!
Now we can put the lyrics to the map, which, in the case of Posse’ on Broadway, it allows us to follow (more or less) the route Sir Mix-a-Lot would take while out cruising.
